Wayne County EMS Training Department provides initial & continuing education as well as community education for the citizens, EMS providers, and other healthcare providers for Wayne County and the Lake Cumberland Region. We strive to provide the best, evidenced based educational programs to the region.

Wayne County EMS is a training site for the American Heart Association, The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, The American Academy of Pediatrics, the Cleveland Clinic, and The American Geriatric Society. About Our Instructors


The Training Officer at Wayne County EMS is Keith Widmeier. Keith Widmeier has a bachelorette degree from Eastern Kentucky University and holds instructor and faculty status in a variety of EMS certifications. Keith is a local & national presenter as well as an author for a variety of EMS textbook publisher. He also is a regular author for the Journal of Emergency Medical Services. Keith has worked in variety of settings including Urban, suburban, rural, wilderness, aeromedical, and ground critical care. His knowledge and experience is an asset to the Wayne County EMS Training Department.

Richard "Dick" Short is a retired California Highway Patrol flight paramedic as well as a current practicing paramedic with Wayne County EMS. Dick holds a variety instructor status in a variety of EMS certifications and is also a regular lecturer during our initial education courses. The combination of law enforcement and EMS that he possesses is invaluable to the students at Wayne County EMS
